Day 3 - Calgary to Radium

Our goal on Day 3 was to drive as far as Radium. I had never been to hot springs before, and insisted we stop this time! So, we got up in the morning, had some campground showers (really, not bad - water was hot, free of charge...I think I took longer than campground etiquette dictates. Too bad!), and had a quick breakfast. It took longer than we hoped to pack up again, we had unloaded most everything and put it wither in the tent or under the tarp to stay dry over night.

We just drove, enjoyed the scenery, and stopped as we wanted to. We spent a little time in Banff, just walking around town. As luck would have it, it POURED rain! No real surprise, we were getting used to it. Because the downpour happened at lunch time, we abandoned our plans of finding a nice little restaurant for lunch, because every other tourist in town had the same idea. We found a nice rest area in Kootenay National Park to have lunch. It had a little playground, so Lochlyn was able to play a little. Even Kinsley enjoyed some time on the swings.

We found a campsite called The Canyon, and decided to make it home for the night. Well, what do you know...again, we raced against the rain to get set up. This time, it didn't storm, just a steady rain that prevented us from having a fire and making supper until quite late. Who woulda thought that perogies cooked on a Coleman stove would be so good?

Lochlyn helped with dishes - first time ever - and we pretty much hid in the tent for the rest of the night. The mosquitoes were out in full force! Good thing we had a DVD player, some stickers, and a deck of "Go Fish" cards to keep us busy. Chris spent much of the evening sitting in the car, reading pamphlets on nearby towns, for lack of anything better to do in the rain. It was funny to hear him tell long stories about the various landmarks we passed!

We hoped for a good night's sleep, and planned to go to the hot springs in the morning.
